Is hair loss caused by stress?
Stress is not seen as a key factor for causing hair loss, but it can worsen a situation that is already about to get out of control. For example, Telogen effluvium is the result of an insult to the system.
In what way are genetics and hair loss related?
Genetics may not be the primary factor in hair loss, but it plays a very important role in the process. However, contrary to popular myth, it is still not clear what poses a greater risk - having an affected mother or an affected father.
Can young adults suffer from hair loss?
Male hair loss affects mainly individuals between the ages of 20 and 30, but it can occur in a 15-year-old boy as well. A history of family hair loss will be helpful in determining if there is any possibility of such a problem - if a parent experienced hair loss at an early age, the risk that this will occur in their children is increased. Alopecial areata and telogen effluvium are forms of temporary hair loss which can affect babies.
Are there any shampoos or other hair products which may cause hair loss?
If you are allergic to any shampoo constituent you can experience hair loss. Although shampoos are produced in the safest possible way, there is always someone who is allergic to them. Hair dyes and other hair products can cause inflammation of the scalp which can result in hair loss.
Are there any hairstyles which are particularly harmful to hair?
Certain hairstyles like tight braids or pull-backs can cause a form of hair loss, called traction alopecia. If you wear your hair in such a way for a long time, you condemn yourself to a scarring permanent alopecia.
