Reasons and treatment
Telogen effluvim
Telogen effluvim is the name of the rapid and sudden hair loss which is usualy caused by high levels of stress. Many women after childbirth experience this problem; it can also occur as the result of a high fever.
Rapid weight-loss diets can cause stress as well leading to hairloss.
Surgery can lead to hair loss as a result of post-surgical stress.
After a stressful experience your hair follicles stop growing prematurely and enter into the so-called resting phase. But if the cause is stress, then the hair loss will not lead to baldness, since the condition is temporary.
Telogen effluvim affects more woman than man and leads to a 30% increase of hair when it is in the resting phase. After several months clumps of hair will have fallen from the area above your forehead.
When the body has returned to its natural state and the stress is gone, the hair loss should stop as well. In times of family-member loss and the following mourning period, accidents or certain abuses, you may experience hair loss.
